Everyone Has a Dragon

"'I (Sister Helen Prejean) have accompanied people (victims' families) on two pathes. Some people know that the road they need to go down, where they're going to have peace, is forgiveness and reconciliation. And other people, because they're hurting so badly, and they've been hit with such a loss, want to hurt the person that hurt them. Everyone goes through some stage of wanting to hurt someone who hurt their loved one, but some people don't stay in it.'"

Regrets, mistakes, and sorrows, get me down, frustrate me, and make me mad, but what can I do about them now. Like most people, if I could turn back time, I would. But would I make different choices if I could and would they place me in any better situations?

It is my physical condition that I find provides me with the most stress and frustration. It's the realization that I let it happen as it did that really bites!

The Mark Inside..."

Naked Lunch

Within my life, all things transpired, have made me what I am right now. There is more to life that the sum of all the things I possess, even my own body. Can we agree, one's own body is the most personal possessions, or is it your soul?

Many things can be taken from us with little justification or compensation: family, lovers, friends, property, health.... Sorrow, anger, and regret can seem persistent and unacceptable for so long that it blinds us to the larger and more grand picture.

I've spent the fourteen years prior to 2000 A.D. refocusing my life due to a simple incident gone amuck. However, I am fortunate enough to be entering the new year recovering from corrective surgery and enhanced hope for my future.

DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise & haste, & remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak you truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull & ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain & bitter; for always there will be greater & lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let that not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity & disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly to counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue & loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gently with yourself. you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors & aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

It is merely something that the old folk sit around the living room and talk about. As the child lies motionless on an adult's lap, they stroke the child's head absent-mindedly and talk among themselves. They forget the children are in the room.

The child knows that it will come to an end. It is ending second by second. Soon one of the adults will get up and turn the light on. They will remember the children and not talk anymore that day. "The child knows that they won't talk any more because if he knows to much about what's happening to them, he'll know too much too soon, about what's going to happen to him." A child hopes that there will never come a time when the old folk won't be sitting around the living room, talking about where they've come from, and what they've seen, and what's happened to them and their kinfolk.

Kiss The Dirt

Playing in the dirt, we find the seeds of doubt,

Don't water them with your tears,

Don't think about all the years,

You'd rather be without.

Eden lets me in, I find the seeds of Love,

And climb upon the highwire,

I kiss and tell all my fears.

Falling down the mountain, end up kissing dirt.

Look a little closer, sometimes it wouldn't hurt.

Playing in the dirt, we find the seeds of fun,

And we scream like alley cats,

Tearing down what we attack,

To prove that we are one.

Falling down the mountain, end up kissing dirt.

Look a little closer, sometimes it wouldn't hurt.

Cutting through the night,

And we find the seeds of lust,

And lose our minds on one intent,

These passions never seem to end.

The Hunter

It don't come easy, that's understood, Faint hearted loser, that's no good. Just take a lesson from the Great Mohammed, He said . . . .He said . . . .

Pick up a rifle, you must be strong. To take a title can be so long. If you believe, you can't go wrong, I said . . . . . I said . . . . , listen!

He's a fighter, he's my friend, Always winning in the end,

He's no angel, he's no fool, Never plays it by the rule,

Take the glory, steal the prize, Only the hunter, only the hunter

You took your chances, you hurt your pride, A sense of failure is hard to hide. You crossed the limit, you broke the code, Back on the road . . . . Remember?

He's a rival, he's my friend, Always winning in the end. He's a tiger, he's a swan, He's the one I'm counting on, To take the glory, steal the prize. Only the hunter, only the hunter Survives.

I'm on the outside, I'm looking in, Through the lenses then onto film. I've got the target set in my sights, I see a vision of truth . . . look out!

We're gonna fight until we drop. We're gonna get back to the top. We're gonna be the first in line. Winners till the end of time. Only the hunter, only the hunter, survives!
