Microsoft Project Management File

Introduction

The Microsoft Project Management Software (currently Project 98) is one of the tools you'll be using to design and track your project from Start-Up Phase to Close-Out Phase. A Starter Project Management File will be provided: tcm490-projectoutline.mpp.

The chart develops from your Project Description, WBS, Learning Contracts, and other support documents. The Gantt and Pert charts will be referenced at each report or presentation.

During the implementation phase, there must be a status report each week. For tracking purposes, a minimum of four to six reports are required.

Here is an example of a Microsoft Project Management file showing the Gantt Chart.

• Your file will show the Project Summary Task (row 0).
• Your file will show a "% Complete" column in the Gantt Entry view.
• Your file should use notes to clearly define tasks.
• Your file may show outlining.

Here is another example of a Gantt Chart.

• Note that the Critical Path is shown in red in the Gantt Chart.
• The critical path should be well defined from project start-up to project close-out

Here is an example of a Pert Chart for the Gantt Chart above.

• Note how clean the chart is and that the project path and task dependencies are clearly shown.

The relationship between the project file and support documents must be clear.
